Altoz TFX Zero Turn Mower Review: Tri-Axis Suspension, Tracks & All-Terrain Deck Tested

We just got the brand-new Altoz TFX series zero-turn mower, and it’s a serious step up from their already impressive TRX lineup. Altoz took the proven TRX platform and engineered it specifically for tougher applications with a brand-new Tri-Axis™ Front Suspension system we hadn’t seen from them before.

In this in-depth review, we break down everything you need to know: the advanced suspension, powertrain, mowing deck options, build quality, dimensions, real-world performance, and pricing. We’ve put this machine through its paces on grass, dirt, and uneven terrain. Here’s our honest take.

Suspension Technology

The standout feature on the TFX is the new Tri-Axis™ Front Suspension. Unlike the rubber-damper setup on the TRX, this system uses three points of rotation mounted to the frame, with a center coil spring over oil shock that’s adjustable via a threaded tensioner. This lets the front wheels float independently while keeping the machine stable on rough ground.

You also get a fully adjustable high-back suspension seat with armrests and lumbar support that you can calibrate to your weight. The third layer comes from the Rear Torsion Axle Suspension™ built into the tracks. Together, these systems let the TFX glide over bumps and span holes at higher speeds without beating up the operator — a common complaint on even high-end wheeled zero turns with air-filled tires.

To put it in perspective, I compared it directly to the Bad Boy Maverick HD. The Maverick is an excellent machine with good suspension for the price, but the Altoz TFX (more than double the cost) delivers noticeably smoother performance thanks to the full triple-suspension setup. After testing dozens of mowers, the TRX and TFX are still the smoothest we’ve driven on both grass and dirt.

Powertrain & Performance

Power comes from a proven 999cc 38.5 HP Kawasaki FX1000V engine with EFI, sequential multiport fuel injection, cast-iron cylinder liners, pressurized lubrication, and top-tier filtration (5” cyclonic with rain cap). It’s one of the strongest, most reliable engines in the industry.

The fuel tank holds a generous 14 gallons and is mounted behind the seat instead of on the sides. This slimmed-down design lets you mow much closer under low obstacles like solar panels, vines, and branches — exactly why Altoz targets solar farms, retention ponds, municipal sites, and orchards.

The Hydro-Gear ZT-5400 transaxles are professional-grade, delivering 700 ft-lbs of torque and built for machines up to 2,200 lbs. You get a solid top speed of 11 mph and — one of my favorite features — a two-range (High/Low) transmission. This is rare on zero turns and gives you much better control depending on the job.

Warranty coverage includes 3 years on the engine, 2 years on the transaxles, and 1 year manufacturer. At Tractor Bob’s right now, you can add a lifetime powertrain warranty plus free delivery (limited time offer).

Mowing Deck Options

The standard deck on the TFX is the heavy-duty All-Terrain Cutting System made from laminated 7-gauge and 7-gauge steel. It’s a 6” deep rear-discharge deck with chain guards and six heavy-duty swing blades forged from heat-treated high-strength steel. This setup performs like a slip-clutch rotary cutter — built to take abuse in rough conditions while still delivering a surprisingly clean cut.

If you primarily mow turf, you can swap to the Aero-Deck, which is optimized for the cleanest possible finish on manicured lawns. Altoz also offers a deck-wing extension kit that folds up/down and adds 16” of width for a total 82” cut. At 8 mph, that lets you cover 5 acres in under an hour — extremely efficient.

All decks feature heavy-duty greasable spindles and best-in-class belts/pulleys. Cut height adjustment is easy with a hand dial + foot pedal system (with transport lock). All-terrain deck range: 3”–7”. Aero deck: 2.5”–6”.

Build Quality

The TFX is currently Altoz’s most rugged zero turn. It uses the fully-welded heavy-gauge steel frame from the TRX 766 but adds a more protective heavy-duty fuel tank positioned behind the operator. You also get front and rear hitch receivers, heavy-duty tie-down points, a metal stomp pad on the deck, and quality rubber floor mats.

Visibility is excellent thanks to the bright neon green-yellow paint on key areas, red reflective tape, and overall compact design. The no-flat front tires and full track system make it ideal for places wheeled mowers struggle.

Minor critique: The control panel is basic compared to the TRX (no digital display or keyless entry), and the cup holder/storage cubby feels like a cheap 3D-printed part. These are small details I hope Altoz improves.

Dimensions & Price

  • Length: 96”
  • Height (ROPS up): 79”
  • Width (chute up): 67.5”
  • Front tires: 15” flat-free
  • Estimated weight: ~1,500 lbs (based on similar TRX 766)

The track system is a game-changer. The All-Terrain Terriflex® tracks (81” long x 10” wide) deliver low ground pressure, minimal compaction, and excellent traction on slopes and soft/wet ground. You can swap to turf tread for even gentler grass handling. The large contact patch (roughly 20” x 10”) gives stability that wheeled machines simply can’t match.

As of this writing, the Altoz TFX cash price is around $27,900 (prices vary by dealer and time). That’s compact tractor territory, but you’re getting tracked capability, triple suspension, and commercial-grade components.

Altoz offers more affordable tracked models if the TFX is overkill for your needs. I’m happy to help you choose the right machine — just reach out.

Who Should Buy the Altoz TFX?

This is not a mower for everyone. I only recommend it if you:

  • Have a homestead with tough, uneven, or wooded terrain
  • Mow solar fields or orchards where low clearance and undercutting matter
  • Work for a municipality or commercial jobsite that demands maximum reliability and safety
  • Want the smoothest ride possible in a tracked zero turn

If you’re mainly doing flat residential turf, a lower-cost wheeled model or the TRX series might be a better value.

The Altoz TFX delivers impressive innovation with its Tri-Axis suspension, track system, and versatile deck options. It’s built for serious work where others won’t go, and the ride quality is genuinely class-leading. If your property or job demands this level of performance, it’s one of the best options available.
